After 3 years all vehicles by law require a mot certificate. A valid mot certificate is only given to vehicles to verify that they have passed all the necessary checks to insure their vehicle is road worthy.

The vehicle has to pass many tests before gaining a valid certificate which include some of the following; Lights, Steering & Suspension, Wipers and washers, windscreen, horn, seatbelts, seats, Fuel systems, Exhaust emissions, exhaust system, vehicle structure, doors, mirrors, wheels, tyres, brakes, etc.
